Kinesiology and Children
I have extensive experience working with children. I have qualifications in Children's Services, and have worked with children with special needs and learning difficulties in Adelaide for a long time before moving into kinesiology. Kinesiology is a gentle way of assisting and managing special needs that helps children to overcome significant issues.
The upbringing of children today is quite different than it has been in the past. The busy world we live in makes it easy to reach a point of "overstimulation" very quickly. Loud noises, busy schools, lots of activities, changes in our family life and having little down time can lead children into a state of "fight or flight".
This stimulation to the nervous system can cause a range of physical and emotional disturbances.
A child’s kinesiology balance usually works in a couple of different ways. I always start a session with a new client by setting up the consultation in a way that encourages the building of trust and rapport with the child. I will then consult with the parent about a kinesiology action plan to work towards ways to help assist them to a calmer and more harmonious family life. Using the muscle testing approach during a balance gives children that are not able to express themselves clearly a voice to help find the imbalance and to rectify it.
When working with learning difficulties and special needs, I will tailor the session to specific areas of dysfunction such as speech, reading or writing, unwillingness to try new foods or experiences or emotional outbursts. Again, using muscle testing, we can find out where the negative association is, and identify a way to start strengthening problem areas.
I also work on children's self esteem by helping kids to see their worth and their gifts and assisting them to interact with their environment in a calm and centred way.
Usually when I work with children under the age of five I prefer to use a human surrogate as it can be harder to muscle test young children directly. This means that either Mum or Dad (or a significant caregiver) lies on the treatment table and I use their body to muscle test. The corrections that come up are usually, where possible, performed directly onto the child.
